About

Prelude Ltda. is a (for the time being solo) game development studio based in Belo Horizonte, Brazil. We're currently working on our debut title, VARG, targetting the Windows, macOS, and Linux platforms.

Our games are developed in the Rust programming language, using the Bevy game engine.

Name Inspiration

Both a sign of things to come, and a reference to the programming concept of a “prelude” module: a collection of frequently-used items you can bring into your file with a single command. After typing it for months on the first line of every single file we created, the word stuck and felt appropriate as a symbol of the beginning of this game development journey.

The Prelude studio logo is meant to evoke the early era of digitally designed logos of the late 90s, with bold textures and bevel effects, that while didn't always translate well to print form, were still iconic and omnipresent in gaming magazines, PC manuals, game boxes, and interactive CD-ROMs. Those especially shone when rendered “poorly” by the humble household computers of the time, in low resolution and with a 256-color palette.

The composition and elements are inspired by gaming-related logos from that period that really left a mark on us, such as the Id Software, LucasArts and early DirectX logos. The rusted metal texture is a nod to the Rust programming language, which we use to develop our games, and the asterisk shape is inspired by the symbol used in the language to import all items from a given module. (Such as in use bevy::prelude::*)
