Site Launch, Debut Title Page now Live on Steam!

Posted by Marco Buono on November 25, 2024

Welcome! Today is a big day. I am excited to launch this website, a new game Studio, and announce that the game page for our debut title is now live on Steam!

If you've been following me on social media (Bluesky, Threads, X, TikTok), you might have seen some early footage and screenshots of a “boomer shooter” that I have been developing for the last couple of months. Until now, that game didn't officially have a name, but today I am happy to announce that it's called VARG!

VARG is a love letter to the classic MS-DOS “boomer shooter” genre, with a modern investigative twist. Set in the distant year of 1996, the game is loosely inspired by Brazil's most iconic UFO case.

In this game, you play as a father whose son has gone missing. You must investigate the mysterious circumstances surrounding his disappearance, fighting your way through the unexpected hostile forces that you encounter along the way. Unravel the secrets of a shadowy corporation and its enigmatic CEO—now the charismatic leader of an alien-worshiping cult that has taken control of the entire town.

The game features a unique “Retro-PBR” art style, modern and classic control schemes, and an original soundtrack by brazilian composers. You can check out some early gameplay footage on YouTube!

What you see here today is the culmination of three months of intensive work, but this is only the beginning! There's a lot planned for the game, and I'll be sharing everything with you as I build it! Join the community Discord server to follow the development, give feedback, and even play early builds once they're ready! (Might take a while, but we'll get there.)

Finally, but not less importantly, I feel that a project like this deserves to have a studio behind it, which is why I'm also announcing the creation of a new studio: Prelude Ltda. It's just me for now, but hopefully it can grow into something bigger in the future.

Our goal as a company is to bring our own (hopefully!) fresh take and style to classic game genres, and to help cement Rust as a viable, productive language for game development, via the Bevy game engine. You can read more about us on our About page, or subscribe to our Mailing List to get updates about our games and development directly to your email inbox. The first issue of our newsletter is already out, and you'll receive it immediately after subscribing!

If you've made it this far, I wanted to give you a bit thank you for your interest in this project. I hope you enjoyed what you've seen so far, and I look forward to sharing more with you in the future!
